The Marxist Roots of the Left’s Australia Day Grievance

Upfront, I need to clarify two very important points. Firstly, I understand that referring to “the Left” can mean a number of different things to different people. A very good summary of the shared values by the vast majority of Leftists can be found here (it should be noted that some of the points made are in an American context, yet for the most part, the observances are universal truisms). Yes, there are people who refer to themselves as ‘Leftist’ that don’t fit into the generalised description of what it means to be one, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Secondly, I need to emphasise that even though I love my country, I wouldn’t refer to myself as an over-the-top ‘Super Patriot’ as I am careful to put the kingdom of God before patriotism. In other words, my highest allegiance is to the Lord, not Australia.

Australia Day has come and gone and once again, the Left has done everything they can to bring division to this great country on our national day of celebrating unity and mateship. Earlier I was going over an article on the ‘Invasion Day’ protests in Melbourne on 26/1/17 (from the The Age) and an image taken from the rally caught my attention. Have a close look at it. This is the true face of the Left. I have added three green arrows to bring three things into particular focus.

  1. Notice the words “SMASH THE STATE”
  2. Notice the famous Marxist ‘fist’ sign which is the symbol for ‘socialist revolution’
  3. Notice the girl with the ‘sickle and hammer’ red t-shirt advocating communism

It so unbelievable sad to see sections of the Aboriginal Community in bed with the Marxists. The Marxists are not interested in encouraging unity and healing among the Aboriginal Community, they are only interested in causing strife and division, opening old wounds and empowering their victim mentality. They are professional agitators and love nothing more to ‘rub the sore red’ and keep minorities in a vicious cycle of perpetual victimhood.

They are masters of framing narratives for their own agenda. As we have witnessed in the days leading up to Australia Day, they have indulged in historical revisionism and painted a distorted picture of our history and then bullied anyone who disagreed with it and called them a ‘racist’. This is also exactly what they have done with other ‘victims’ such as the Palestinians, the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) movement, the Muslim community, the LGBT community and other minority groups. They each have their own twisted narrative that legitimises their ‘identity’ as a minority group, and demand rights based on that twisted narrative.

On Marxism, American economist Henry Hazlitt said, “The whole gospel of Karl Marx can be summed up in a single sentence: Hate the man who is better off than you are. Never under any circumstances admit that his success may be due to his own efforts, to the productive contribution he has made to the whole community. Always attribute his success to the exploitation, the cheating, the more or less open robbery of others.” In other words, hate the groups within society that have it better than you. They say, “How dare they have that nice car, that isn’t fair!” It’s a political philosophy based on envy of the so-called ‘privileged’ and it’s extremely seductive, deceitful and dangerous. It appeals both to the victim class and the predator class, hungry for power and control. Marxism, when implemented in Communist Russia, led to the deaths of over 100 million people. It shouldn’t surprise us that a political philosophy that focuses on SELF, ends in death.

Marxism can only flourish with a victimised people and Aboriginal grievance is an ideal candidate in their long term goal to ‘SMASH THE STATE’. Their strategy all along is to ‘divide and conquer’. In order to conquer (bring about the socialist revolution), they must first divide the people. In Karl Marx’s (co-authored with Friedrich Engels) seminal book ‘The Communist Manifesto’ he said that in order for the revolution to come, there must first be ‘class warfare’. He encouraged class warfare by getting the “proletariat” (working-class people) to rise up against the privileged “bourgeoisie” (the well-off capitalist class who owned most of society’s wealth and means of production). He was pitting the ‘haves’ vs ‘the have nots’ by instilling a mentality of victimhood in the ‘have nots’ (the proletariats). Marx said that the proletariat should rise up and demand “equality” with the bourgeoisie. Sound familiar? Marx believed that the “privilege” of the bourgeoisie needed to be eradicated and envisioned a egalitarian utopian society where all distinctions between the classes removed. Marx believed that after the bourgeoisie were done away with, equality would be achieved with mass redistribution. He saw that the state would take the responsibility to redistribute food, household goods, property and wealth. Taking from one (by force) and giving it to another. A fanciful world where victims and the under-privileged do not exist. No tall poppies. No one stands out from the crowd. Complete equality and uniformity. Although on the surface it appears that the Leftist activists are merely standing up for the grievances of the Aboriginals, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s simply a means to an end on the road to their socialist utopia.

A Greens staff member advocating for “full communism”.

A great example comes from the co-founder of the LGBT indoctrination program “Safe Schools”. Roz Ward, a hard core Marxist, pushed a hard-fought campaign convincing the Australian public that “Safe Schools” was a program to specifically address bullying in schools. Yet, she openly admitted in a leaked video that Safe Schools was NOT about stopping bullying, but rather about supporting gender and sexual diversity. Then last year Ward said of the Australian flag at the Victorian Parliament House, that “When that racist flag [referring to the Australian Flag] is replaced with a red one [meaning a red communist/marxist flag] then my work is complete.” Again, their so-called compassionate intentions are a smokescreen for their real agenda, which is to SMASH THE STATE.

Of course, Leftists attacking their national day is not unique to Australia. The American Left loathe Columbus Day and Independence Day, the English Left loathe St George’s Day (see also here), the Israeli Left loathe Israeli Independence Day (see also here), the Canadian Left loathe Canadian Independence Day, and many other examples. One thing is certain—no matter what Western country they come from, the Left will call their national day a day of shame. Why? Because they have been indoctrinated to hate Western Civilisation and Western patriotism that goes along with it. The American Left call their Founding Fathers ‘extremists‘ (and even ‘terrorists‘) and the English Left call those who celebrate St George’s Day ‘racists’. Leftists will tell you that the reason why they hate Western culture and Western history is because they see it as “colonial oppression” and therefore something to be ashamed of. Yet, at the heart of the matter, the Left hates Western Civilisation because of its inextricable link with Christianity.

Whereas the Left believe that ‘equality’ and socialism is the answer for the grievances in our society, those of us on the right believe that our rights come from God and not from man (the government). We believe that capitalism, personal responsibility and individual liberty, underpinned by Christianity is the answer. Capitalism has pulled more people out of poverty than any other economic system. Bringing people into FREEDOM from the endless cycle of playing the victim is a testimony to the Christian worldview and a hallmark of our free democratic society. Incidentally, Karl Marx said, “My object in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism.” He understood correctly that capitalism and Christianity are the two very things that have made Western nations strong, prosperous and successful.

The Christian worldview believes that all men are created in the image of God. It believes in objective morality and duties, independent from human opinion. Absolute right and wrong, and absolute good and evil. That man is inherently wicked and is in a state of perpetual enslavement in his degenerate state outside of a relationship with God. That only through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross does man find redemption, forgiveness of sins, and reconciliation with God. The idea that believing in a transcendent Truth in the person of Jesus Christ does one truly find freedom from moral, emotional, phycological and spiritual enslavement. Jesus said, “When you know the Truth, the Truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) He also said, “He who the Son sets free shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36) This is the true essence of freedom. The fertile soil of human flourishment.

Although sections of the Aboriginal community may see the ‘rightwing conservative white fella’ as their enemy, the real enemy of the Aboriginal people are those on the Left, those who keep them enslaved in a endless hellhole of victimisation. Even though there has been blights on the history of the church in its interactions with the Aborigines, people often forget the honourable things that the church has done. Critics of the church often forget that it was the church that lobbied the government to overturn the law that deemed Aborigines as ‘fauna’ and not human. Of course the church isn’t perfect, but many of the early initiatives in helping and reaching out to the Aborigines came through the church.

One thing I know for sure, is that this fight is far from over. Next year I can guarantee with all certainty that the Left will again try to take it up another level and will double-down in their efforts to bully Australians into accepting their distorted view of Australian history and coerce us to loathe over ourselves with self pity. We cannot afford to ignore these toxic viewpoints, because if we continue to give them free airtime in the public square, it will fester and continue to sway those who aren’t familiar with Australian history and will only bring more division and disunity.

Remember, there was high optimism in the lead up to Kevin Rudd saying “sorry” to the stolen generation in 2008. Many thought that would be the thing that would finally bring healing to aggrieved Aboriginal community. Yet, its now 2017 and the grievances are still there. The victim mentality will not go away, especially with the Left empowering and exacerbating this toxic mentality.

Healing will come when the church gets on its face to cry out to God for a ‘great awakening’ among the Aboriginal communities. The answer is always the gospel. Check out these remarkable life-transforming testimonies from Aboriginals who found their freedom in Christ.

This is the very hope for the Aboriginal Community. Government programs can not come close to the life-changing power of the gospel.

Australia Day is for ALL OF US, irrespective of our culture or background. Convicts never invaded Australia, they were actually the first stolen generation, dragged here against their will. We understand that there are Aboriginals that want it changed, but (unbeknownst to most of us) there are others who don’t. The overwhelming majority of Australians understand Australia Day to be a day of UNITY and celebrating what Australia got right, not what it got wrong. A day of thanksgiving to God for one of the ‘luckiest’ and most blessed nations in the world. Let’s keep it that way.
